ArticlesEuropean Champs -day 1Today was the first day of the European Championships in Galicia in Spain. The feature is tricky as it is slow and flushy, but the Brits have been making the most of it and 3 men (James Bebbington -4th, Alan Ward, Sam Anderson) and 3 ladies (Jenny Chrimes -1st, Lowri Davies - 3rd, Fiona Jarvie - 5th) made the cut to semis today. Jon Best and Claire O´Hara were both looking fantastic in practice but unfortunately Jon hit the bottom on his loops and Claire had a really unlucky flush meaning neither made it through. James Reeves put in a solid performance considering he only arrived yesterday as a last-minute replacement to Richard Chrimes, but again didn´t make the top-20 cut to semis. Both Claire and James Reeves will be competing in the squirt competition tomorrow. The bank is lined by numerous British supporters (there were more than 60 of us out at the team meal last night!) who have helped gear the paddlers up. Though it seems the British supporters were almost outdone by the French with their very loud saucepan-banging! Come on you Brits more cheering effort please!! My take on the feature and today´s heats can be found here The rest of the prelims take place tomorrow, with semis on Friday and finals on Saturday. Flea Fiona Jarvie |
